John is an entrepreneur in the mobile and games space having extensive experience in both startup businesses and large corporations. John's early career started in the 1980's in a range of technical and/or management roles within the computer games industry including five years as Technical Development Manager for SCi before founding his own business in 1998 in the PC/console development space.
The potential of the mobile phone as a games platform was identified in 2000 and led to the founding of a new company IOMO. After significant success including three BAFTA nominations and two successive ‘Best Mobile Studio' awards, John joined NASDAQ-listed Infospace as part of IOMO's acquisition for $15m at the end of 2004.
At Infospace John initially ran European Operations including responsibility for the Virgin Media and 3 Italy storefronts before moving back to the games side of the business managing mobile games on a global basis until Infospace exited from the mobile sector in summer 2007. This included the ‘skill-for-prizes' titles with Vodafone Germany that were originally launched successfully in the US with Verizon.
John is currently CEO of mobile technology middleware company Metismo, creators of Bedrock, and Chairman of mobile game developer FinBlade. In addition consulting roles include mentor to a Flash adver-gaming business under the auspices of the NESTA ‘Raise the Game' program.
John is a founding Director of Tiga, (The Independent Game Developers Association) and past other voluntary roles include the Nokia Advisory Council, Mobile Entertainment Editorial Advisory Board and the BAFTA Games Committee.
Other interests include a Non-Executive Director role at Eco-House Builder Cloud-9 Living and building and racing Caterham Sevens.
John has a BSc Hons Computer Science from the University of Kent at Canterbury and started his MBA with the Open University which has been interrupted by success in business. He is married with two daughters.
